CDKL5

CDKL5 is a gene mutation, it stands for cyclin-dependant kinase-like 5 and is located on the X-chromosome.
There are around 200 diagnosed cases world wide, however more and more children are being diagnosed as awarness of CDKL5 spreads.

The CDKL5 gene provides instructions for making a protien the it vital for normal brain development.
Most children that are affected by CDKL5 suffer form seizures that begin within the first few months of life and severe neuro developmental impairment

Most cannot walk, talk or feed themselves and are confined to wheelchairs & dependent on people for everything.
Many also suffer from cortical vision impairment, meaning their brains cannot unscrammble what the eye sees, meanwhile there are no problems with the eye itself.
